PandaClient

2023–2024. A Minecraft launcher, rewritten three times, then retired.

Back in 2023, I wanted to develop something big. Like a Game or something. So I met up with a friend, got onto his PC (for some reason, even though I had my own), installed IntelliJ IDEA and looked at the Screen like it's gonna do the Game itself. I had NO clue how to make a Game, yet how to even do more than just very basic Java. The only thing I partially knew was Python and HTML. So obviously I didn't do any Progress on this day. Then we created a WhatsApp Group Chat for the Game, but quickly changed the Goal from creating a Game to creating a Minecraft Client... didn't even know what that was back then. The first name I picked was "Astral Client", but I realized that one exists already, so I searched a bit and found out "Panda Client" wasn't really used already. Now let's see what I wanted PandaClient to have...

  • Forge and Fabric at the same time
  • Best FPS Boost possible with own engine
  • Best Mod Database and auto installer
  • Customizable UI
  • Multiple Mod Profiles

Well, pretty much unachievable for someone who can't do more than a simple println. But the "ForgeXfabric" would be Premium Only, but free for friends. I wanted to do the UI using JavaFX. Asked a Friend to do me the Logo, but since that guy didn't know how to make one I asked ChatGPT to make me one, after a few tries I had a good one and used that. Obviously, JavaFX did not work at the first time nor the 2. time. ChatGPT had to fix it again. At some Point, ChatGPT was actually able to create me an Microsoft Azure login, not stable, not secure but it worked. Then I made the old PandaClient discord, which is archived now. Then I asked my friends who of them knows FXML, obviously noone did. After that, I can't remember exactly in which order things happened, but I managed to let ChatGPT make me a one-file Minecraft launcher that works 80% of the time after half an hour of downloading inefficiently. Once Fabric kinda worked, after slaving ChatGPT for a while, I contacted someone who already made a launcher, the thing I actually made here, who then clarified the difference between a Client and a Launcher. That guy was etkmlm, and I'm so happy that I met him looking back. He litterally carried me though PandaClient V2. Then, I met someone who could make me the discord rpc integration, which he mostly copy pasted one big file that worked sometimes on Windows and Linux only. And we had to deploy the dcrpc SDK with it, not a big problem, since the jar already was about 50mb. And for some reason, the MinecraftLauncher.java class was in the Utils package... the only class that was kinda important. As usual when just letting ChatGPT do it, it had many German // <-- HERE!! comments and a lot of emojis. A bit after that I discovered Getters and Setters, something that was like Magic to me. About in that time, I also made the PandaClient Website, which sadly got flagged by Google because of my... not really legal Imprint. Anyways, that site was ChatGPT's work too. Well, so much said for now, this story isn't completed yet and will probably be extended soon :)

Repos: PandaClient v2 PandaClient v1 is private right now, same goes for v3, they will probably not be made public anytime soon PandaClient Site isn't a public repository, but it's still online
